New Zealand’s largest solar farm in Canterbury has just opened. The $104 million, 63-megawatt (MW) solar farm opened today at Lauriston, 20km north of Ashburton.
Spread across 93 hectares, the project features more than 90,000 solar panels and is expected to generate up to 100 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity each year – enough to power nearly 13,000 households.
This is good news for New Zealand. At the same time, the same article states that coal imports are increasing. New Zealand should do a lot more for the environment, especially since it is an island country surrounded by water.
