“Nothing will ever be the same,” says his friend and Roxette colleague Per Gessle in a statement. Her manager has published this press release:

Roxette – a 30-year old success story
Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle created the group Roxette and they have been world-famous for more than 30 years.
– Thanks, Marie, thanks for EVERYTHING. You were a truly unique musician, a singer on a level we will hardly ever experience again. You painted my black and white songs with the most beautiful colors. You were a wonderful friend for over 40 years. I am proud, honored and happy to have shared so much of your time, your talent, your warmth, generosity, and humor. All my love to you and your family. Things will never be the same, ”Gessle says in the statement about her friend, according to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.se
Roxette was reunited in 2009
For many, she had long been expected to be completely out – but in 2009 Marie Fredriksson returned to the stage and her group, after years of cancer treatments and brain surgery.
Only in 2016, the Swedish world star, on the advice of doctors, left the stage, to live her final years in tranquility with the family.
– When she said “I can’t do it anymore. I can’t travel anymore, I can’t stand on stage, I can’t focus”. Then I said “Okay, we skip it,” Per Gessle told German RTL
Proud and grateful
In her 2015 autobiography, The Love Of Life, Marie wrote on the subject of accepting her health: ‘At last, it feels like I have reconciled myself to having a radiation injury to live with. That this is how it turned out. ‘I have lost many years through the disease. And it is also a sadness to age. But every day I think I’m grateful to be sitting here. And that I can still sing.’

Roxette reached international fame in the 80’s and 90’s
Have you heard how Roxette became world-famous? It wasn’t until an American student studying in Sweden brought a copy of their second album home to Minneapolis, and persuaded a local radio DJ to play The Look, that they achieved international fame, according to BBC.
That song became the first of four US number ones for the band, while its parent album, Look Sharp!, went platinum.
They achieved their biggest success when their 1987 Christmas single, It Must Have Been Love, was re-written for inclusion on the Pretty Woman soundtrack in 1990. It topped the charts in more than 10 countries and gave the band their biggest UK hit, reaching number three.
