Art Basel in Hong Kong made a change to their original dates of May 15-17 March this year, and thus coincided with the Festival of Art and Hong Kong International Film Festival. The Tourism Board Hong Kong gave the March nicknamed the “Month of art in Hong Kong”.
The fervor for art has spread beyond the arts sector, and even shopping malls of the city are filled with great facilities to coincide with the show. This is also the first year of satellite art fair, Art Central, created by the same founders of the International Art Fair in Hong Kong and designed to complement the Art Basel fair in Hong Kong.
The show this year brought together 233 galleries from 37 countries and territories. Half of the galleries are in the Asian region, including Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia
