The city of Hildesheim in Germany has declared itself as a supporter of a project called Streetpong, due to the enormous response to the video below. The video shows an installation in Hildesheim, helping the boring waiting time to be used for something different than just looking into the air. It’s a nice idea as it gives you a random challenge with the other person on the other side of the street while waiting for the traffic light to change.
Here is the proof:
STREETPONG from HAWK Hildesheim on Vimeo.
This Streetpong game-waiting-for-green-light idea is a concept to urban interaction of Sandro Angels and
Amelie Künzler, created with Holger Michel at the HAWK Hildesheim, Faculty of Design. It is a simulation and not a permanent installation.
We think that this is a great idea and should be installed everywhere. What a nice idea!? The fact that Streetpong is now a prototype at a traffic light in Hildesheim is also great. Interesting ideas like this need to be shared worldwide as it makes life more fun and challenging. Good work!
