Novosibirsk is a city in Siberia, southern Russia, bisected by the Ob River. The city has about 1.5 million inhabitants. The Trans-Siberian Railway fueled much of the city’s 19th-century growth, symbolized by the Novosibirsk Rail Bridge, which still stands today. In the city center is the 19th-century, Byzantine-style Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, with its golden domes. The expansive Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre borders Lenin Square

Novosibirsk has a famous railway station. The station is one of the biggest in Russia and an integral station for the Trans Siberian railway express. Why visit the Opera house of Novosibirsk?
The Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre is one of the most important theatres in Novosibirsk and Siberia. It is located at the center of Novosibirsk at Lenin square.
The building was completed in February 1944, and the first performance was held on 12 May 1945. As of 2012, it is the largest theatre in Russia, larger than the Bolshoi Theatre (literally “Big theatre“) in Moscow.
The auditorium seats more than 1,790 spectators. Its upper gallery is decorated with copies of antique Greek statues, according to jackdevant.com. The theatre is often called the “Siberian Coliseum” because of its size and beauty. The principal construction of the theatre building is the big dome.
You find this opera house in the heart of Novosibirsk, behind Lenin Square. The front has a monumental portico with two rows of 12 pillars each and further back is a silver dome, of which one can read that it is 35m high and 60m wide (200 feet) and 35 metres (115 feet) high. All around are well kept flowerbeds and trees, an area also popular with locals to go for a stroll or have a photo session.This internationally renowned theater is an architectural masterpiece and includes two well-known ballet and opera groups.
