Samsung Electronics reports impressive results for the fourth quarter of 2012, driven by a continued strong performance in the South Korean giant’s smartphone business. The operative income jumps an unbelievable 89 percent! In numbers the operating income reaches 8.8 trillion WON (that is approximately US$8.2 billion). The demand has been stunning for their Note 2 and Galaxy S3. Another important reason is lower-than-expected sales of Apple iPhone 5, it has benefited the South Korean company, the report added. We look forward to their updated 7 and 9 computer series and Galaxy S 4 in 2013! In the United States, Samsung and rival Apple dominated the mobile phone landscape, at 26.9 percent and 18.5 percent respectively in November 2012.
In China, Samsung and Lenovo were at the top two smartphone players with 14 percent and 13 percent share respectively in the third quarter, and Apple dropping out of the top 5 ranking to sixth.
