At the beginning of my social life on the net, I started out with LiveJournal. Now everyone seems to be on Facebook and Twitter. I see these hash tags # everywhere, and remember times with IRC (Internet Relay Chat (which I still use)). At some point I was just wondering if my old account on LiveJournal still was still active, and yes it sure is.
Facebook makes you think that they actually came out with this social media idea first. But while they made everyone connect to one place and sort of made a Internet outside of the normal Internet, LiveJournal did and still does connect people thru pages that was quite different. All of the LiveJournal personal pages could be designed quite heavily. Which ment that someone had nice set-ups while others had LiveJournal sites with so many GIF animations and blinking HTML text etc. To set up a site, you needed a little knowledge, but the site didn’t require you to know a lot.
So, do check out your life on the net before Facebook and Google+ era. Your old social network website might still work. I feel a bit bad for these people, because Facebook have become too big. Google+ is trying to get new people, but is struggling compared to the Facebook beast. Another choice is Ello, which is so new that people are quite slow into taking it to their hearts. Sad!?
Your previous life on social media before Facebook, Twitter and Google+ might be on LiveJournal. Maybe? Do you got a story of how your social media era started? Please tell us.
How to find out where I have been?
First of all, you can try to use a search engine. Second you can try to use Archive.org, which have stored almost any site out there. Everything that you type and do only is stored.
So. If you want to check out this LiveJournal service, you can go here and either find your old account or just register. LiveJournal is a great alternative to Facebook and Google+. It was also years ahead of Facebook, but is still alive.
