LG’s brand spanking new 55-inch OLED TV is now available for pre-order in South Korea. LG Electronics has beaten country rival Samsung and all others in the race to bring a large screen OLED TV to market. LG manager: “Not since color TV was first introduced 60 years ago has there been a more transformational moment.”
The 55EM9700 model uses organic light-emitting diode (OLED). This technology is more energy efficient and arguably offers a better picture quality than LCD and plasma-based TVs. OLED is considered by many to be a key future growth area for TV sales, with the market expected to hit to 7.2m units by 2016, according to DisplaySearch.
Let’s hope this is the tipping point for OLED TV consumer awareness that firmly puts demand back on picture quality.
