Goodbye, Retina! There’s a sharper computer screen out there! Google’s new Chromebook Pixel has a 2560×1700 pixels resolution and is the new king in town! It is packed with 4.3 million pixels, the display offers sharp text, vivid colors and extra-wide viewing angles. And Google’s computer is a TOUCH screen, and that’s an important difference! And the format is 3:2.
Forget Windows or Linux, because Google runs it’s very own Chrome OS that is run in a browser! There will be two versions out there, one with only wifi connections, and one with 4G/LTE support. Included is also 1TB storage space from Google, but only for 3 years, not lifetime.
The rest is nothing extreme. The Chromebook Pixel has got a 1.8Ghz Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 32 GB SSD hard drive and Intel HD 4000 graphics. It has got only 2 USB2-ports, a miniDisplay-port, analog sound port and a SD slot.
Battery time will be 5 hours according to Google when it is active all the time. It supports dual band wifi and Bluetooth 3.0. It has got a 720p webcam.
The dimensions for this Chromebook Pixel are: 297.7 x 224.6 x 16.2 mm and it weighs 1.52 kg.
The Chromebook Pixel will cost approximately 1300 USD for the cheapest version with only wifi. Distrita thinks that’s a bit expensive, but still it is cheaper than the always overpriced Apple products. We are happy to see that finally there’s a competitor to the Retina products, and wish Google good luck.
