Inspiring coach and breweri enthusiast
We meet Espen Smith, one of Norway’s most famous beer enthusiasts. He is interesting to listen to, he is funny and is giving lots of facts, a great way to be introduced to this up-coming beer event! We learn that Norway had an impression beer epoc 100 years ago. Hansa Bryggeri is the local brewery of Bergen, Norway, meanwhile the founder, Waldemar Stoud Platou, was not from Bergen, but from the Eastern part of Norway.
It was established in 1891 by Waldemar Stoud Platou when he acquired the minor local brewery Det Sembske Bryggeri. The name “Hansa” is meant to reflect Bergen’s history as one of the Hansa trading cities. The Norwegians exported lots of beer to Germany and United States until 1950, so Norway has something to proud of if we go back in time… But after 1950, we lost much of that pride.
Dogs have 25 million senses for smelling, while we humans only have 5! While we drink beer, endorphines are released, and we can feel sweetness and bitterness, the same thing as dividing a tomato in two parts, taste and aroma!
Belgians really love beer! On hospitals there, you will always be asked: What is your favorite beer? The reason is “stimolo”: Nobody can’t say no to their favorite beer! If you are sick, you probably don’t want to eat much food! But if you start drinking, you also want food! Beer brings your appetite back!
Exciting program for all beer lovers
Inspiratour offers an interesting beer and chocolate safari.
The event is from 18.-21. April 2013, and the price is 9990NOK (or less than 1250 Euros). It includes mostly everything, flight from Norway, 4 star NH hotel stay, entrance to the beer museum, bus shuttles, brewery visit including tasting, 3 dinners, 4 lunches, Belgian chocolate tasting and the always inspiring beer coach Espen Smith! The breweries are located in Ninove and Gent and there you will try a beer with gruut. Gruut has an amazing rich taste, a deep copper colour and a smooth drink-ability and when using the typical open glass, you will see a fabulous head, discover its deep copper color and capture its delicate aroma.
One of the headlights will be visiting Pierre, a local store owner, that always surprises with new experiments and new drinks! He always mix beer in the food as well, for example in sausages.
There will also be a visit to Le Corbeau, a great bar. Beers are cheap in Brussel. A beer normally costs 2-3 euros, and in the city centre of Brussels it can be app 1 euro extra. There are 3 beer categories in Belgium:
-Light Beer normally is not very light, it contains 6.5% alcohol and is normally light brown or golden.
-Double; brown color
-Triple; malting fermentation, brown color. Up to 13% alcohol!
Stefantier is an old hardware store or thrift store, where you can find absolutely everything, old stuff that you thought did not exist any more. There are also lots of markets in Brussels on Saturdays and Sundays that can’t be missed!
You can join the beer event with Espen and Inspiratour by visiting Inspiratour.com (the page is in Norwegian) or phone number + 47 4000 1982.
Distrita tried out some of the beers! We liked most of them, but our favorite was Leffe that almost tasted chocolate! Some of them even was perfect to drink with cheese and dark Belgian chocolate!
