The Late Show with David Letterman has been CBS’ most popular talkshow! Of the major American late-night programs, Late Show ranks second in cumulative average viewers over time and third in number of episodes over time. That’s impressing stats for a talkshow, going on CBS since 1993! Before 1993, Letterman was Late nite host at NBC, and Letterman surpassed Johnny Carson as the longest running late-night talk show host in 2013! It is not strange that Late Show with David Letterman is known as the Rolls Royce of talkshows!

What made Late Show such a huge success?

The show is in the genre of night talk show where the formula is: Dave starts with a stand-up session (monolog in front of the audience) in the beginning of the one-hour long show where he jokes about today’s news in the media, and things like… The president is always a popular subject… And in next part he presents the Top 10 lists of funny categories, Mailbag with questions and letters from viewers and other random bits, changing from season to season. The rest of the show he interviews famous actors, singers and famours people, and finally, an artist performs on the stage.

David Letterman discusses his retirement plans with President Barack Obama:

David Letterman, Stephen Colbert vs Jimmy Fallon. Soon we will have the answer!

Letterman retires from TV in 2 weeks!

Letterman retires in an age of 68 years old. During his 30 year long career, the show had many brilliant guest hosts, including Jim Fallon, that now hosts his own talkshow, maybe the most popular talkshow, Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, for the moment. Maybe it was his guest hosting in Late Show that gave him this opportunity! Jimmy Fallon is only 40 years old, and fresh air in the talkshow industry compared to Conan O Brien and Jay Leno… It’s a bit more modern, and it will be interesting to see what happens with The Late Show when David Letterman is replaced by the new host later this year.

Only 2 more weeks for David Letterman! How will Stephen Colbert change the Late Show? And will the new Late show be a success?

David Letterman is “The Rolls Royce” of Talkshow hosts

We have enjoyed David Letterman as a very talented talkshow host, and we got the pleasure of watching him on Scandinavian TV Channels as well, until they chose to remove it two years ago… For the moment, Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon is the only American late talkshow host that is shown on Nordic TV Channels. He was probably even better in the 90’s… It’s impossible to be as enthusiastic as in the beginning after 30 years with the same kind of TV Show! When that is said, Letterman is already The Talkshow Legend! And we gonna miss Letterman a lot! The Talkshow king!
