Our article about Gmunden Light Rail People Mover expansion article is one of our most popular ones ever mad. So, we follow it up. We couldn’t attend as we couldn’t find a room left in any hotel in the town. But, we report from it anyway with permission of using photos from StadtRegioTram Gmunden Facebook page.
An era of Gmunden light rail construction is Finally over
With these pictures, we want to thank all of the construction site reports that we got in first place.
All of the employees of the companies involved in this project have done what they can to build something that the citizens of Gmunden, Austria always wanted to happen for this construction to be finished for a long time. Finally these light rail people mover trams can transfer people all the way between Vorchdorf-Eggenberg and Gmunden HBF.
Every employee of the company Star & Hafferl did an excellent job! Making the trams running under the towns two house tunnels again is something that the citizens have been waiting for ever since that part was closed many many years ago.
Old tram wagons got Replaced by new Light Rail ones in Gmunden
This video is from before the opening of the Gmunden thru service that took place on 1st of September. It shows a sort of goodbye to the older trams that’s been the citys icons for a decade. Lisbon in Portugal still uses their old tram wagons up and down the steep roads in the city. Gmunden, should have done the same thing!
Gmunden, Austria should keep their old trams and continue having them as it is their icon
We really think that it is really nice to see the town getting new light rail wagons going thru the city. But Gmunden should have kept the old ones! Even though it’s only 450 meters to walk from the new light rail network to a cable car service named as Grünberg-Seilbahn.
Gmunden shouldn’t sell them at all. They are the icon of the town. If they are totally gone, the identity of the town is also fading a bit away even though that the modern light rail ones will do its job too.
An great idea would be for sure to extend the old tramways to Grünberg-Seilbahn which is an touristic attraction in the town. Then these wagons could keep their G in the front and back. At this place. These old wagons could turn and go back to Gmunden HBF in weekends and on special days. Ripping the iconic image isn’t a good thing to do. So, StadtRegioTram Gmunden should re-think this move! We aren’t here to decide anything, but we send a huge love back to Gmunden and it’s old iconic tram wagons that we think that they should keep!
Congratulations to Gmunden for getting a light rail network now going thru the town. Fantastic news and a great example of what passioned people and StadtRegioTram Gmunden can do together. This project has been funded by the citizens of Gmunden! That’s incredible and something that other towns in the world should consider doing in the future.
Listen to your People! Mayors all over the World! Light Rail can change cities for the Better!
