Asus Transformer review

As you might notice, Distrita gives you reviews a bit behind others. We do this because we really want to test the device before giving it a review. ASUS EeePad Transformer is our next device for review…

Over to the review…
Asus Transformer is it’s name, the device we have got for testing. This so called EeePad from Asus is a masterpiece already from the start when unboxing it. The case is really slick and ASUS have really done a good job presenting this device as best they can. I like that they try new ways and don’t try to follow Apple as almost every other manufactures of tabs does.

Starting the device…
When turning on the device, I noticed the ASUS logo animating. This is a bit better than the LG one, but still!!! Look at Samsung. They really use the whole screen when presenting their Galaxy S devices and it looks refresh and cool also! When ASUS have booted, which takes about 1 minute, the device is presented very well. This is thanks to Android 3.1,.. but what even better is that ASUS doesn’t require any PC connected to the device for upgrading to Android 3.2.. instead ASUS live updated our EeePad device almost instantly after the first boot and configuring of WLAN access point. This is very good ASUS, which Distrita likes a lot.

Using Latest Android On EeePad…
After all installing and live updating of the device. I finally can use the device, and I must say that I am impressed! The menus and transactions are smooth. Starting apps and closing them works very well. Changing between programs works without flaws, but there are things that needs to be improoved! While the browser is fast in usage, it have really speed problems especially when using Facebook or other heavy sites. This should be improoved ASUS! The Efika 400MHz machine with MorphOS outperforms it even and its sad when ASUS Transformer EeePad is at 1GHz. Lets hope that Android 4 fixes these problems. There are also some problems with programs crashing, but its getting improoved with Updates on Android Market Place.

The extra keyboard dock…
Distrita can reveal that the dock must be one of the best docking systems ever. Its good, secure and easy to use. De-taching and attatching is easy and goes without problems. There is a lock on the dock making sure that the tab sit steady. With this docking system, this tab transforms into a min-laptop or notebook. The keys and the mousepad is well done. The keys are good with big fingers but also for smaller fingers. The keyboard got Android shortcuts for browser, settings, light of the screen and much much more. There is also a alt + tab function which lets you switch between your running Android apps easy.

The hardware…
The CPU is at 1GHz dual core ARM cpu and graphic card is a Nvidia Tegra graphic card. Makes the system and even 3D games run nicely. The device can also show 720p and 1080p HD video. We tested lots of YouTube HD videos also and it worked very well. Soon you will able to see this in Distrita TV on YouTube.

Conclusion…
We at Distrita is very happy with this device. The browser have its faults and its a question of why? We have tried Dolphin Browser HD and FireFox for Android also, but its almost no difference. There must be a way to help the browser become more smoothly on more heavy sites. Is this Android or ASUS fault? Well, browsing news sites, forums and other easier sites than Facebook works nicely… but since almost everyone is on Facebook, this device should be able to show of better sides on this issue. There is a Facebook app for Android which can be used instead, but tabs are not mobile phones. The screen IS bigger! Now this solution question goes to ASUS and Android!? We will update you on this once Android 4 is out for this device. Look out for it and hope you like this review.
