Malaysia: – The use of the word Allah is not an essential part of the Christian faith, we believe that it can be justified that they insist on using the word in its publications, said Judge Mohamed Apandi, when he read out the more than 100-page ruling .

The controversy began in 2009 when the Interior Ministry forbid Catholics to use the word. The Catholic Church went to court and the following year received the favor, which led to several attacks on churches and sometimes violent conflict between Christians and Muslims.

Nine percent are Christians in Malaysia. Muslims make up 60 percent of the population of 28 million in Malaysia.
