I have started to read the Manga of Alita Battle Angel. Maybe I started at the wrong end, but for me, it is worthy to know what happened to our Alita before she came to earth. What happened on Mars? How did it look like?
Everything started on Mars for Alita
I don’t want to spoil anything. But what I want to say is that the Anime version of this fantastically written sci-fi drama. It is a pure destroyer. I am so sorry for people loving it. But the movie is so much better.
If you read the Manga comic books. Then you will notice how much better it is than the anime versions. Don’t get me wrong, .. I love anime. In fact, I have Now and Then, Here and There, Cowboy Bebop and much other anime cartoon series as my absolute favorites.
But after seeing the quality that the Manga books got. It is obvious to me that I can relate to why the anime series never took of.
Alita Battle Angel movie saved this sci-fi series
The movie by James Cameron saved the whole Alita series. The Manga comic books are all fantastic. I love the drawings of the young Alita. I love the drawings of the very first Mars village where we get to know our young Alita.
Even with just black and white drawings. The quality of the drawings is for me impressive. The Manga was first published in Shueisha’s Business Jump magazine. It was then serialized from 1990 to 1995. Many Manga comics got various quality, but this is impressive.
You don’t need to watch the Mars chronicles first as I did. I am sure that many will disagree with my decision. But the Alita Battle Angel movie gave me a lot. So to start there isn’t the worst thing that I’ve done in my life. It is one of the later Manga productions, yet it tells Alita before she was Alita. I plan to read everything though.
Before Alita Battle Angel was released on Bluray and DVD here in Norway. I got to see all of th anime OVA’s. They are more violent and shows nudity. But it doesn’t save it. I first thought that they were okay to watch but after seeing the Manga comics I’ve changed my mind totally.
So for us, the Manga comic series and the film adaption helps this epic sci-fi story to go on. The way Alita was made in the movie is just impressive and will never be forgotten. I just hope that James Cameron or someone else can make the Mars Chronicles as a movie also later. Because that is also quite heavy sci-fi stuff. It’s almost heartbreaking. But the setting set on Mars in a film adaption of the Mars chronicles would be totally epic.
I am waiting… ! Now get those blurays and DVD’s !!!
