A look at Alberto Morales
Alberto Morales was born on November 21, 1952, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After a 100 years of Argentina’s presence in Antarctica, the Dirección Nacional Del Antártico (National Directorate of Antarctica) invited him to participate in the “Multidisciplinary Program for Antarctic Diffusion and Culture” during the Antarctic Summer Campaign in 2005. Thanks to this program, he had the opportunity to travel for 40 days across the White Continent.
Focus on the global climate change
Meeting with this distant continent, mysterious and inaccessible, was for him an initiatory journey. He did not know that what he wanted to paint actually existed: The purity, the cleanness of the atmosphere, the simpleness of the vastness and the power of the Antarctic energy. He found that he could portrait the essence of things and the soul of man immersed in that extreme environment.
Passion for Antarctis and the world’s biggest challenge
He was asked to participate in a project to spread what Antarctic is, to other audiences different than the scientific ones. This had a huge impact on him, and since then, the experience’s been engraved in his conscience, questioning and worrying him. The news tells us about global climate change every day, but he could actually feel it in his body, seeing the constant crying of glaciers and melting ice, finding huge blocks of ice on the coast detached from the glaciers that once reached the sea.
Since then he has committed his work as an artist to generate awareness and spread this terrible threat that weighs on the world.
